Doula
I offer care during labour and birth as a Doula/Birth Companion to women in Warwickshire and the West Midlands.
A Doula (woman caregiver) provides emotional and practical support antenatally, during birth, and postnatally. A Doula does not give clinical care. As a Doula I believe in supporting the whole family to have the type of birth and experience they wish for. So, although caring and looking after the woman is the main aim, I like to support the Man too. This allows him to feel confident about birth and also allows him some time off if he needs it.
I know from my experience working as a midwife and from research that women not only birth more instinctively when they have someone caring for them who they trust (and who provides continuous support), but also have a much better birth experience regardless of how the birth goes.
After our initial meeting we will meet at least twice (more if you need it) to discuss and/or create a birth plan, practice breathing techniques, positions for labour and birth and to talk through any worries you may have. You can ring or e-mail me at any time. I hope during these meetings we will get to understand each other and build a good relationship. I can also offer additional hypnobirthing sessions, antenatal classes and pregnancy yoga. I will be on call for your birth from 38 to 42 weeks when you can contact me day or night.
During labour I will be there to offer support, help and suggestions. I will act as your advocate if that’s what you wish and remind you about breathing, relaxation, movement and positions. I can massage you (with or without essential oils) and help create a relaxing environment for you to birth your baby into. I will give you continuous support throughout your labour, providing reassurance to you and your partner and supporting you in your decisions; helping you to have a good birth.
After your baby is born I will stay until you are comfortable.
I offer a couple of postnatal visits to help you settle at home with your new baby.
Alternatively you may wish me to give full midwifery postnatal care of you and your baby for 6 weeks, with daily visits for the first week, and thereafter relating to your needs. (additional charge of £895).
The cost is £895.
